Oh the wind was kicking today!! Always makes for fun riding when your in a High Wind Advisory!

This time last year we would be at the kite beach getting our kite boarding on (well at this particular time last year, I would be watching from the sidelines with a ruptured ear drum while The Doc would be kiting). Sadly (but not too sadly) we haven’t been kite boarding this season. This year the desire to ride has won over both The Doc and I.

It was a little chilly today, about 62 when we left, and overcast. As the day went on the temp dropped and the sun came out. So we put on the inner liners in our motorcycle jackets and hit the road cruising. The Doc had it a little bit chillier than I did, I had the nice big fairing of the FJR to tuck behind One of the perks of the FJR!

The Doc wanted to get a new tank bag for the Duc as well as a tinted visor for his Arai helmet. There is a Barney’s about 15 minutes from our house but what fun would that be?

We wanted to ride!! We hopped on the Crosstown and headed over to St. Pete to that Barney’s. The route included a nice ride over a long bridge. With high wind that was fun! Actually it wasn’t that bad until we came off the bridge. There was a stretch of area wide open from the water and it was a straight onshore breeze. I swear the bike was horizontal as I rode through that.

Barney’s was a success. The Doc found Cortex Tank Bag and tinted visor!

I am The Stig's American Sister!!!

After Barney’s we decided it was lunch time. I also thought it was a good time to goof off and steal The Docs helmet and play Stig. If you don’t watch Top Gear Uk, you must check it out. Especially if you love cars!!

Lunch and Helmets!

Once lunch was complete was drove around town running errands. That sounds so boring, let me try that again. Once lunch was complete, we hopped on the bikes and fought crazy ninja’s as they tried to steal the treasure in the tank bag!!! That sounds so much more interesting!

We finally beat all the raging ninjas around Tampa, The Doc said something I was not expecting to hear, “Do you want to ride the Duc?”

“WHAT WAS THAT?!” I said. My ears must have been playing tricks on me, Did he really just ask if I wanted to ride the Ducati?!

HELLLLLLLL YESSSSSSS!

We drove to a corporate center near the house where we played Chinese fire drill. He jumped on the FJR and I hopped on the Ducati.

I just wanted to drive down the road. There was no desire to take her to her limits, I leave that to The Doc. If she was mine, I would have done more but since it wasn’t mine, I wanted to take it easy with her.

The Duc did not disappoint. It was beyond anything that I have ever experience…and I barely put her in second gear. The roar of the engine, the power of her throttle, I was in heaven, and I barely hit second gear. It was this moment that I understood The Doctors instant love of her.

I told him that I do want to ride her again but for today, my straight line of taking her to 30mph (seriously, that is as “fast” as I took her but I got there with barely a twist of the throttle), was enough.

Like I said, when it is someone else’s bike, it makes me nervous. It is one thing if I tip my bike over, but to do it to someone else’s bike, I couldn’t even imagine that feeling.

Happy Riding!

Sandro Cortese of the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 Team was fastest on the Valencia circuit for the third consecutive day in the first round of official tests for the new MotoGP class.

Cortese also managed to improve his lap times each day as teams running KTM and KTM-driven bikes continue to work hard on their pre-season preparations. “I had a very good feeling right from the first day to the end of tests and we improved a lot as we get the bike ready for the season. With KTM as the factory team we have a lot of support and I think I am in a better position than in previous years,” Cortese said at the conclusion of the training.

While there is still much work to be done before the opening MotoeGP in Qatar, it was nevertheless a positive outing for all five riders of the new KTM factory bike and the four riders on the KALEX-KTM-driven machine. They dominated fast lap times in the top ten and were all up among the top third of the field of 33 riders.

After last week’s preliminary tests and the three days at Valencia Aki Ajo, Team Manager of the Red Bull KTM Ajo nevertheless took the cautious approach saying he was “quite happy”. “Now we have had five full days of tests and we have had no technical problems. That is the most important. But we must remember that we are in the early states of our preparation. All the teams are just beginning and we will really have a better idea of where we stand after a month.”

Alex Baumgartel, constructor of the K KALEX-KTM bikes said the tests had been “very positive”. All our riders managed to improve their times over the three days and we were without any technical problems. We can say we’re in the ballpark. It’s been very positive for us.”

While weather for the first two days of tests was very cold, Friday was kinder for the teams. Cortese managed to put in a lap time fourth tenths faster than his best on Thursday to come away satisfied with his final day. Alberto Moncayo (KALEX-KTM), Danny Kent (KTM) and Luis Salom (KALEX-KTM) all reported a time of 1’41.2 to be third, fourth and fifth on the unofficial time list on Friday. Niklas Ajo (KTM), Hector Faubel (KALEX-KTM) were placed sixth and seventh, Zulfahmi Khairuddin (KTM) and Brad Binder (KALEX-KTM) were ninth and tenth and Australian Red Bull Rookies Cup graduate Arthur Sissis (KTM) finished thirteenth.
The next Moto3 ™ testing will begin next week in Jerez, Spain, where the Andalusian track will host three test days (Thursday, Friday and Saturday).

Unofficial Moto3 lap times Friday (recorded by teams):
1, Sandro Cortese, Germany Red Bull KTM Ajo, 1’40.9 (41 laps)
2. Maverick Vinales, Avintia Racing, 1’41.0 (66 laps)
3, Albert Moncayo, Spain, Aspar Team KALEX-KTM, 1’41.2 (56 laps)
4, Danny Kent, Britain, Red Bull KTM Ajo, 1’41.2 (56 laps)
5. Luis Salom, Spain, RW Racing GP KALEX-KTM, 1’41.2 (28 laps)
6. Niklas Ajo, Finland, TT Motion Event Racing, KTM, 1’41.4 (32 laps)
7. Hector Faubel, Spain, Aspar Team, KALEX-KTM, 1’41.6 (54 laps)

Other KTM

The KTM/HMC Superbike Racing Team competed at three of the AMA Pro Superbike Road Racing Championship Series events last season and will return for the entire series for 2012. The team will be headed by HMC Racing owner, Mitch Hansen, and will be taken to the track by Chris Fillmore.

The famous duo, Hansen and Fillmore, both have an extensive history with the KTM brand. Hansen led the HMC/KTM Supermoto Team to 10 National Championships from 2003-2009 and was also the face behind the U.S. Red Bull Rookies Cup effort from 2008-2009. Fillmore raced for the HMC/KTM Supermoto Team at the young age of sixteen in 2003 and again in 2008 where he finished 2nd overall in the AMA Pro Supermoto Championship while also competing on the KTM 990 Super Duke in select events.

The two paired up last season during the final few AMA Pro Superbike Road Racing events and earned the KTM 1190 RC8 R Race Spec bike its best Superbike racing finish with a 7th place result at the Lexington, OH round.

KTM will back their effort once again, but this time for the full season of Superbike racing. “We were very proud of what HMC and Chris accomplished in 2011, entering the highly competitive Superbike class in the middle of the season. We feel confident in our HMC program, Fillmore and the RC8 R that we will see even more success during the 2012 season,” remarked KTM Product Line Manager John Hinz.

Hansen is equally excited to return to racing, commenting, “We have been tied to the KTM brand for many years now and this level of racing is what we both have aimed for. We are proud to represent KTM and their Superbike at the national level and look forward to showing the U.S. market what the bike is capable of.”

Fillmore will compete aboard the KTM 1190 RC8 R Race Spec motorcycle. “I have been testing the RC8 since it first arrived in the states and the Race Spec bike is very competitive,” remarked Fillmore. “I am very excited to be racing in the Superbike class again and am looking forward to competing in a full season and improving on our success from last year.

The RC8 R Race Spec motorcycle was launched in the U.S. in 2011 as a new production model built specifically for competition use and returns again for 2012.
On Balding:

Guys, if you’re going to go bald you might as well be in shape. Just a thought.

Ladies if you’re going to go bald you might as well stay young forever. OR I hear they sell wigs too. Just a thought.

Or for anyone, if you are going bald just tell everyone you’re going through chemo and people will feel sorry for you.

On Motorcycles:

Why yes! I will go 70 mph without a seat belt sitting on combustible fuel, navigating a machine that can’t stand up without help.

Knee jerk:

I don’t know why they call it knee-jerk I mean, my fist punched you without even thinking about it. Maybe its a punch jerk?

knitting:

All hit men know how to knit> Knitting needles are really good weapons> Ninjas invented Knitting.

Ikea:

Please, be original for once with your name. Also what is a kea? Here let me check on my Iphone.

Casual:

I’m a guy so naturally I’m looking for new levels of casual in everything I do.

A necktie and collared shirt are just too professional to be lazy in. “Oh let me lounge on the couch in my suit and tie.” Bet you never heard someone utter that sentence before.

Bicycle shorts:

Are like Baseball’s Catchers gear, unless you’re playing baseball or bicycling you probably shouldn’t be wearing them.

Buffalo, NY: Dunlop is pleased to announce that in 2012 it will once again support club racers throughout the United States by posting more than $1 million dollars in available contingency payouts throughout a wide variety of racing classes conducted by 17 popular sanctioning organizations. As the official tire of the AMA Pro Road Racing series, Australian National SuperBike Championship, Australian FX Series and more, Dunlop in 2012 will make available to club racers an expanded selection of products, including DOT tires and slicks made in the U.S. and U.K., along with professional services at the track. Direct technical assistance from the Dunlop U.S. R&D team will be available at select club races where work with the ongoing road race tire development program will take place.

Detailed information regarding the 2012 Dunlop contingency program, tire availability and prices are available at Dunlopracing.com or by calling Race Tire Service at 800-772-8473. Also, be sure to check out the special price page.

Dunlop Senior Road Race Manager Sabastian Mincone said, “Club racing, like AMA Pro Road Racing, has always been an important program for Dunlop. Over the years, this program has allowed us to work with some of most talented riders in America, and to develop race-winning products that work remarkably well at race tracks all around the United States. All of us at Dunlop are pleased to offer contingency awards plus our technical support for the many club racers around the country to help grow racing at the grass-roots level, and we also understand the difficulties involved with racing in today’s economy. In 2012 we will intensify our development of U.S.-made race products in order to deliver top performance at an affordable price. Witness the 2011 WERA championship won by BEI Racing on new Dunlop KR448F and KR449 slick tires made in the USA. Dunlop also recently rolled out a new profile 190/60ZR17 D211GP-A with MT Multi Tread™ and NTEC technologies in several compounds. Dunlop will also continue to offer our full range of UK-made road race tires for 2012.”

About Dunlop
Dunlop is the largest supplier of original equipment and replacement motorcycle tires in the U.S. and the only manufacturer of motorcycle tires in North America. With North American operations headquartered in Buffalo, NY, Dunlop has been making and selling high-quality tires in the U.S. since 1923.
